With around 780 institutional members, the Swiss Museums Association (VMS) represents the interests of the entire Swiss museum landscape vis-à-vis the authorities and the public. It promotes contacts between museums, sets standards and serves as a forum for the exchange of ideas and experience.
The VMS was founded in 1966 as an association of museums in Switzerland and the Principality of Liechtenstein. In 1996, together with the Federal Office of Culture and Switzerland Tourism, it initiated the Swiss Museum Pass. The VMS is a partner of ICOM Switzerland, the Swiss National Committee of the International Council of Museums.

LUCERNE FESTIVAL attracts classical music stars from all over the world. The world’s most-celebrated orchestras, legendary conductors, and virtuoso soloists gather in this idyllic setting nestled on Lake Lucerne, in the heart of Switzerland, to celebrate a festival of music. The KKL Lucerne, which was designed by Jean Nouvel, serves as the Festival “headquarters,” providing an outstanding concert hall that is acclaimed for its phenomenal acoustics and its exquisite architecture alike.

Lucerne is the starting point for the Lucerne-Lake Lucerne Region and offers a wide range of attractions to discover. Centuries-old sights such as the Chapel Bridge, the Lion Monument and the historic Old City form the exciting contrast to contemporary Lucerne: the avant-garde KKL Luzern, the abundance of restaurants and an attractive range of shopping. The Festival City Lucerne delights throughout the year, with classic, blues, jazz, rock, comics or the splendidly colourful Carnival. The Rosengart Collection, the natural monuments in the Glacier Garden and the Swiss Museum of Transport are among our museum highlights. Immerse yourself in this city, stroll along the docks and get to know the legendary charm of Lucerne on one of our guided tours of the city.

Discover and experience culture, art, history, technology and nature in nine Lucerne museums.
Art lovers can admire works by important modern and contemporary artists in the Art Museum, the Rosengart Collection and the Hans Erni Museum. Music lovers can learn all about the famous composer at the Richard Wagner Museum. In the Historical Museum, you can experience cultural history up close and personal. In the Bourbaki Panorama, an impressive circular painting documents the drama surrounding the 87,000 French soldiers who found refuge in humanitarian Switzerland in the winter of 1871.
Young and old explorers alike can gain complex insights into local natural history in the Glacier Garden and the Lucerne Nature Museum. And the Museum of Transport shows the development of transport and mobility in an exciting and eventful way.
